Frequently Asked Questions
What is Property Management?
Property management is the day-to-day oversight of a single family home by a professional management company. A property manager handles essential tasks such as sourcing and screening vendors, coordinating maintenance and repairs, and ensuring the property operates smoothly. Most importantly, effective property management reduces stress for the owner by taking care of the time-consuming and complex responsibilities of managing a property.
Who is WheelHouse Property Management?
WheelHouse is a New Canaan–based, family-owned property management company. We founded the business after seeing too many well-built homes in our area impacted by inconsistent or low-quality maintenance.
We found that homeowners care about maintaining their properties, but finding dependable service providers and skilled technicians can be challenging. WheelHouse was created to solve that problem—connecting homeowners with trusted professionals and overseeing maintenance with a high level of care and consistency, so every home is properly maintained year-round.
Who works with WheelHouse Property Management?
WheelHouse is an ideal fit for homeowners who prefer to hand off the details of home maintenance—whether it’s due to the complexity of managing everything or simply a lack of time. Our clients value a proactive approach, knowing that consistent upkeep extends the life of key systems, from roofing to mechanicals, and helps prevent minor issues from turning into costly repairs.
We also work closely with homeowners who maintain multiple residences and need a trusted local partner to oversee their property while they are away, ensuring everything is properly maintained and running smoothly.
Why does building science matter?
Your home isn’t just a collection of individual components—it’s a connected system. A building science–based approach looks at how elements like HVAC, ventilation, moisture control, and materials work together. When your home is maintained with the full system in mind, it operates more efficiently, feels more comfortable, and supports healthier indoor air quality.
At WheelHouse, we understand that even small changes can impact the performance of the entire home. Your Property Manager helps guide thoughtful decisions around maintenance and upgrades, ensuring that every investment contributes to improved comfort, durability, and the long-term performance of your home’s systems.
How do I work with my Property Manager?
Trust and communication are at the core of our relationship. You’ll hear from your Property Manager regularly and always have a dedicated point of contact when something comes up.
If an issue arises—like a dryer making an unusual noise—simply call or email, and we’ll coordinate the right team to take care of it promptly.
For ongoing care, you’ll receive a monthly update outlining scheduled maintenance and timing, so you always know what’s happening at your home.
And if you’re unable to be there for a service visit, your Property Manager can be on-site on your behalf, ensuring everything is handled properly from start to finish.
Why is WheelHouse Property Management different than others?
We’re not a construction company that happens to offer property management — property management is our core business. Our focus is on protecting your home, not profiting from repairs or renovations.
No conflicts of interest: We don’t mark up vendor invoices or route work through in-house contractors. You pay direct pricing—directly to trusted, independent service providers.
How do we start to work together?
The first thing we do after a quick intro call is walk through your home, talk about everything that works, anything that doesn’t and what your plans are for the future. The WheelHouse team will compile a report and start to tackle the list for you as well as identify your systems and compile a comprehensive maintenance plan.
